Close finish

It's Friday evening at Scone Recreation Park Bowls Club. Lined up against my brothers for a warm up session before the Harry Roscow Trophy competition. Playing each other over twelve ends. Toss coins for order of play.

Me and Andrew play first. I'm ahead 4 -1 by the third. Then Andrew strings four winning ends to go 4 - 8 up. Not much between us on each end. I get the next two, 9 - 8 to me. The final three ends are singles to Andrew and a 9 - 11 win.

Andrew sprints ahead 4 - 1 in his next match against Robert, who's trying out a new set of bowls. A three to Robert and they're level. The next two put Robert 7 - 4 in the lead. An exchange of ends brings them to 8 - 8 as they go into the last end. A single wins the match for Robert, 9 - 8, and the end of another tight game.

Final match, me against Robert. He needs this one to come out top for the evening. And a win looks certain as he streaks to a 1 - 6 lead by the third end. I narrow the gap but can't quite close it, still 6 - 9 down with two to play. A three on the penultimate round brings me level and another match decided by the final end. A single from Robert gives him a 9 - 10 win and overall winner for the evening.

Must be the closest warm up session we've ever had, only four bowls between us in the three matches. Going to be an interesting Harry Roscow Trophy battle tomorrow afternoon. Here are the scorecards.
