In normal times would have been captaining our Men's Fours B Team at home against Houghton & Wyton A this evening for the first league match, with food and whisky to follow. But things are still not normal. No outdoor bowls yet.
Much anticipation about Boris Johnson's 7pm Sunday announcement about a possible relaxation of lockdown. Scotland declared a further three weeks with no change. Don't think England will put up with that. At the very least close families need to get together again after six weeks of separation.
The District Council gave our Club a call to offer a grant. Apparently, the indoor bowls club had £25,000 in their bank account within three days of undergoing a fifteen-minute application process. We could apply for up to £10,00 but have decided not to. We're lucky in having a team of volunteers to tend the green and healthy Club finances.
One wonders what the effect on some Clubs will be if they continue to incur the cost of maintaining their green without any income. Would be really sad if some bowls clubs decide to throw in the towel for good.
