Narrow win

Biannual Biggleswade bowls battle this evening at St Andrews Bowling Club. First to twenty-one against ex-workmate Kevin. Been playing the fixture since 2014. It's gone with home advantage up to now. Currently 3-2 to Kevin.

Initially Kevin is winning odd ends, requiring some effort to boost a bowl up the slight incline. I'm winning even ends back down. Even when we each get a better handle on length there's nothing in it. Three-quarters through the match and it's anyone's match.

Three singles to me from the seventeenth end opens up a gap, 17-13 to me. 'About time I won an end' says Kevin, and promptly wins the next three with singles, 17-16. A three on the twenty-third end and I'm almost there, 20-16. But Kevin scores two on the next. We're both within one end of winning. I scrape a single to win 21-18.

Hugely enjoyable. And a perfect end to the evening. A pint at the Conservative Club overlooking the green, and the bells from St Andrews pealing.

The overall score is now 3-3, results as follows.
