Valuable league win

Playing skip for the B Team this evening at home in the Men's Fours League. As shown above, we're bumping along the bottom of Division 3. Our opponents, Fenstanton, are second So it's going to be a tough match.

We're behind from the start on our rink, losing the first three ends to go 0-6 down. Pull back two. On the next end we're sitting with two as I play my last bowl. No easy path through, but I nevertheless give it a go, only to knock their bowl in for one. Why didn't I just take the two?

Three quarters through the match and a string of winning ends sees their lead stretch. We're never going to catch them. Our other two ends are winning with comfortable margins. Our task now is to reduce the deficit so we can win the bonus point for most total bowls scored. We win the last three ends with singles. 13-23 to them, but our scores on the other two ends gives us the bonus point. A valuable 5-2 points win to us.

Bread, cheese and pickles in the clubhouse for tea after. Done in typical St Ives style. Rough cut farmhouse bread, a choice of three cheeses.
