Traditional first Sunday match against mate Tony this evening. And first competitive match. We're playing on rink 6. Big swing against the ditch, very satisfying. After the first few ends, rolling quite a few bowls within a yard of the jack. Encouraging this early in the season. Especially pleased with a drive that knocks his second bowl out to leave me with three. End result a comfortable win.
My opponent is hampered by a dicky back. Playing indoor bowls all winter, he's pulled a muscle in the first few ends caused by the extra effort of launching bowls on an outdoor green. Never seen a bowler doing warm-up or stretching exercises. Maybe it should be standard preparation for a match. Must give it some thought.
Before starting, get three potential new members up and running on the adjoining rink. One is the grandson of our Club's president from 1937 to 1939. We've even got a couple of photographs of his grandfather on the web site during the 1930s. The bowls our novice is using were his grandfather's. Very satisfying.
Here's this evening's scorecard.
