First Over 60s league match of the season, away to St Neots. Missed playing last year, preferring the social rolls up on Tuesdays and Fridays. This year I've decided to play for one of the club's two teams that play Wednesday afternoons instead of the roll-ups.
Both teams were relegated to Division 2 last year. Selection is on rotation rather than by skill. The format is triples, so you get a good run at it, delivering three bowls each end. All very friendly and mannerly.

Up against two decent lady players and a beginner who can hardly get her bowls up the green. All three of us are playing well. We go in for tea and biscuits after eight ends 29-0 in the lead.
The old Over 60s joke about the home team putting something in the tea at half-time is bandied about as our opposition rally and score their first single. They win a couple more ends, but we show a record score by the end of the eighteen ends, 45-6 to us.
Our other two rinks lose. At least we come away with the bonus point for highest total bowls scored. An away points loss 3-4 isn't too bad a result.
Came away from the match feeling really positive. Played well. Taken me four years to end up with a settled method of delivery that works for me. No more fiddling around!
