First Division 3 league match for the Men's B Team this evening. Promoted from Division 3 last year. Apparently, the team has a yo-yo tendency... relegation following promotion. So as team captain, I've set a target of at least 40 points. Equivalent to winning just over an average of one out of the three rinks played each match.
Our opponents are from Hemingford Bowls Club. One of the top local clubs, with a clubhouse to dream of. How good is their C team? At halfway we're holding our own. We're ahead on rink 3, the other two are just behind. Playing lead against a very consistent bowler, I'm holding my own.
And then it all falls apart. We only win two of the next nine ends. The other two rinks also do a bit of a nose dive. End up losing on all three rinks, the bonus point for the highest total bowls scored goes to the opposition. Lose 0-7.
Not sure what went wrong. A few of our players admitted they'd not had much practise. Bit disappointing, given the club has been open for almost three weeks. We even had a couple of A Team reserves playing. Sure we can do better than that. Have to do better than that! Maybe a pep talk on its way.
Here's the sad tale of the score sheets.
