Opening Day

Fine day for a game of bowls. Not an upset bowler in sight, unlike last year's Opening Day. Heaps of happy members all eager to get started. First some ceremonies. The Chairman makes a few announcements The President welcomes the Mayor of St Ives. After a bit of tuition as shown above, the Mayor opens the green by delivering the first bowl of the season. To shouts of 'sign her up', the Mayor's delivery nudges right up to the jack.

An afternoon drive competition with everyone desperate to get their eye in. Indoor bowlers adjust to the outdoor green. Summer bowlers like me try to remember which way up the bowl is after seven months abstinence. Late afternoon we retire to the clubhouse for food and drink, and to award the afternoon's prize to one of our eight new members. Great day!
