Sawtry B v St Ives B

Challenging league match this evening, Sawtry being one place above us and second in the league table. And for much of the match it looked like we might come away with a 5-2 result, with two of our three ends really pushing the home side. Sadly they both narrowly lost.

No such thing for our end. We went out in style, losing 24-4. The score didn't really do us justice. Over twenty-one ends our opposition nipped mostly one bowl, but did it consistently.

Happy with the way I played. Was up against Bernie, a perfectionist I'd play against in the indoor leagues and a great lead bowler. A few too many short bowls, but I was more often at least second bowl, if not shot, as we swapped ends with the skips.

Established in 1974, it was two years before Sawtry had laid their grass and started playing. Nice clubhouse, good green. Laid on a meal of cheese rolls, crisps, sausage rolls and doughnuts. Here's a satellite view of the Sawtry Bowls Club...
