Glum

Quarter final of the Non Winners club competition this evening, best of three sets each of seven ends. Although I wasn't playing well, my opponent was playing even worse and I ended up winning comfortably. Now in the semifinal and only one match away from an appearance on finals day in September!

Had been reading another bowls book by David Bryant. Apparently my current static crouched delivery is unusual, only utilised by players with a disability such as a bad back. One disadvantage is a difficulty in getting enough momentum on the bowl and playing short. That rang a bell with me.

Employed the recommended method. My first bowl ended up in the ditch, though I won the first end by one. But when I lost the next end by one, decided wasn't the best time to change stance.

Had a friendly with the marker  afterwards. Lost 21-19, but liked the suggested method. Will use it from now on, standing upright and stepping forward at the same time as swinging the arm for delivery.

So why did I end up coming away feeling glum? Had been watching a men's county triples match on rink one involving three of the club's best bowlers. Another lesson in delivering each bowl with pinpoint accuracy. If they were watching our match, must have appeared we were playing a new form of the game, the aim being to avoid the jack. Realised just how far I've yet to go to become a good bowler. More than twenty years of experience in some cases!

Here's the scorecard from the club tie...
