Two down, one to go

Another quarter final up the spout this evening, this time the handicap singles, with me needing to get 21, my opponent 23, to win.

Was simply beaten by a better bowler. Although I managed to keep pace for the first ten ends, and even crept into the lead on the eighth end, I just couldn't maintain the consistency to challenge his skill of getting at least one wood really close to the jack. Even when he left some space around the jack, I failed to grab the chance and get a timely bowl close up. On the eleventh end he scored four, but all his woods were more than a metre from the jack.

The other difference was his ability to get out of trouble with his last bowl. For example in the sixteenth end, when I was lying with four bowls to my credit, two of which were right up against either side of the jack. He steered his last wood to carry the jack through to where three of his bowls were lying. Within seconds I went from four up for the end to three down... devastating!

Sloped off home to console myself with a few stiff whiskies. Can Geoff play Prince Charming to my Cinderella to whisk me off to the ball that will be finals day on Sunday 15 September? Still waiting for the other quarter final to be played so we know who we'll be up against in the club pairs semi final. If I can make it to one final I'll be a happy man.
