Fifi the feather dancer

Like some exotic dancer, enticingly hiding parts of herself behind faded feathers, the prospect of a place in the men's B team continues to tease me. Been told it was unlikely I'd get my first selection so late in the season with only a few games to play and them top of the league. Must say, with only two woods to bowl each end in league fours and my tendency to take two woods to find the right line and length, how embarrassing would it be if I was the cause of them losing to inferior opposition! So I'd consoled myself to an amended 2013 target of playing for either the outdoor or indoor team.

But popping in this afternoon for the weekly Friday roll up, there's my name on the board again! One of the reserves for the away match against Eaton Socon B next week!

As usual, nothing is straightforward. Next week is a bit busy already... Monday playing snooker at The Legion against son David and Wednesday away all day for the England v Scotland friendly match at Wembley. Most importantly, Thursday evening I'm chairing the penultimate organising team meeting for the St Ives Flower & Produce Show, now only three weeks away. That meeting has already been reorganised from Wednesday because of my trip to Wembley.

So in a rather cowardly fashion I've left ticking my name until I pop down in a flurry of expectation and dread next Tuesday evening, being the last chance to indicate availability before the team is picked. Think my logic goes something like this...

* If everyone is available, I can tick myself available as well to show willing with no risk of being selected and having to face the consequences. Phew!

* If there are quite a few players unavailable, I'll tick myself as available and face the consequences both at home and for the show meeting. I'm sure both will understand... won't they?

Just can't afford dither, as I've done before... but wait a minute. If the result is the same either way, am I not dithering?
