What a disastrous start to this match, the winner being the best of three sets, each of seven ends. Didn't score a single bowl in the first set and was rolling the woods all over the place. Surely I can't be getting worse!
And the second set started off the same, with my opponent going up four bowls from the first end. But wait a minute... I should have rolled the jack at the start of the second set, my opponent doing so for the first set. I didn't have a clue, not just about who should have started, but the scoring as well. My opponent had graciously spotted the error and we restarted the first end of the second set. Having noticed he liked a short end, I bowled the jack to maximum length. And hey presto... three up to me!
Inevitably I lost the second set as well At least I held my own against a good opponent.
Lesson learned : Know the rules!
