For the third time this week a basic failure in technique has meant an exit from the Club championships. This evening it was a failure to keep my head down when delivering a bowl, the result a loss of line on crucial shots. Earlier in the week the same problem caused a loss of length. And there was a failure to establish clear primary aiming points.
I can give our best Club players a close game, sometimes even win. But I can't win consistently. Certainly can't progress at County level. The basic problem is a lack of consistency. Solve one problem and another crops up. So what's the solution?
Certainly need to stop thinking about it so much and just enjoy my bowls. The more I concentrate on one problem, the more likely it is another will pop up. So here is what I'm going to do.
- Get some solo practise in to groove my technique more so it doesn't need thinking about and all the bits happen naturally.
- Stop caring so much. I'm going to lose some, get over it.
- Stop writing about every match.
The latter point means I won't be writing an update for a while.
