Perseverance

Playing for the B Team this evening. League Triples knockout competition home fixture against fellow Division 3 opponents Eaton Socon A. Four rinks of triples, highest total bowls wins. Should be a challenging match, they're several positions above us in the league. But also a man short.

The green manager has moved rink markers to an unusual position to save the green for County finals matches at St Ives in the next few days. I'm skipping on rink six. Huge bias near the ditch. The other hand is straight as a die.

We're off to a good start, winning the first four ends by a single shot. Then drop four. Another three winning ends, up 11-4. Our opponents take the next three ends to go 11-12 ahead. By the fourteenth end it's 14-14 and a real ding-dong battle. But we're applying pressure all the time. Perseverance pays off and we win the remaining five ends. Final score 30-14 to us.

A massive 33-5 win on the rink where our opponents are one short almost ensures in itself we win the evening. A narrow loss on rink four, a win on rink three, and we go through to the next round with a convincing 96-48 win. Here are the scorecards.
