One for the trophy cabinet

Club Triples Competition this afternoon. Three games each of six ends. Players must take a different role each match. Two teams with highest total bowls play the final.

Been drawn with two other good Club players. Hopeful we'll get to the final. Our team is further strengthened when we receive the late replacement a of County player. With a different rink for each match and playing away from the clubhouse, lines are tricky.

We're off to a great start with a 12-1 win. Second match much closer, we win 7-5. For the final match we're up against another unbeaten team. And going into the final end we're losing 5-7. Playing skip, my first knocks one of ours in to sit two up. Final delivery is a draw for another and an 8-7 win.

We make the final, thankfully played on one, parallel to the clubhouse. Lovely rink, perfectly true lines. Our opponents won 17-4 in their last match. And they push us hard. Playing skip again, we're often sitting one or two down when it's my turn to bowl. Play like a dream. Knocking opposition bowls out, drawing to the jack. Win 10-4.

Torture half way through the afternoon as the smell of frying onions drifts across the green. And the players and spectators start tucking into their barbecue food half way through the final. Ravenous by the time it's our turn to tuck in.

Won the Club Triples in 2017. Hopefully not the only Club Competition win this year.
