Frustrating!

Playing for the Men's Fours A Team this evening in a rearranged match away at Sawtry Bowls Club. No doubt selected because of the latest Two Bowl victory. Some while since my last failed attempt to book a regular A Team place. Surely my concentration is better now? There's no problem when skipping for the C Team.

Arriving early, the green is full of youngsters. Sawtry is hugely successful at attracting school kids to play bowls. As I line up to play lead, no surprise my opposite number can't be any more than 10yrs old. He's flippin' accurate too!

Good result. Lose on our rink but win on the other two and even on total bowls. So a win 4.5 to 2.5 in points.

My performance? Variable. Some good, some awful. The odd bowl embarrassingly short or way off line. Nowhere near the level of my two bowls singles performances. So frustrating! The logic seems to be
  • When playing two bowls singles, the regular rhythm and intense competition keeps me focused.
  • When playing Men's Fours skip, the effort to build a good head keeps me focused, and playing slightly too heavy isn't normally a problem.
  • When playing Men's Fours lead there's no rhythm and spells of inactivity. Just get bored!
