St Ives C v Papworth C

First home league match, against Papworth C. Looks like they lost by some margin in their first game last week. So a chance of another good win.

Looks anything but in the first few ends. On rink one we're ahead, but rink two is struggling. My team of first time league players on rink three are bowling short. After seven ends we're 2-8 down. Turning point comes from end eight onwards. Manage to keep a short jack. After four winning ends and a six on the eleventh, our opponents don't know what's hit them. We're leading 16-8. They rally, but we manage to hold out for a 17-14 win.

Rink one has a comfortable win, but we lose by some margin on rink 2. The total bowls score is 43-41 to us, so we narrowly gain the bonus point and a good win 5-2.

Happy with my performance. Rolled a few too many short bowls on a heavy green, and in the early ends the myriad of short bowls made it really hard to get through to the jack. A final bowl on end four initially looked too wide, but perfect length meant it curled inch perfect into the jack to turn the end in our favour. End ten wasn't bad either. Their shot bowl was surrounded by three of ours. First bowl just missed, second was bang on, knocking their shot bowl out and turning one to them to three to us.

Here are the scorecards.
