Been a wonderful week of bowling. Not many at the Tuesday and Thursday social roll ups because indoor bowling has started. So we had two rinks of pairs each day. With committed bowlers each session, some great banter and surprisingly good bowls.
Weather forecast for Closing Day today not at all good. Promising heavy rain and thunderstorms. Yesterday a ray of hope. Got rain this morning, but by the 2pm start all blue sky, sunshine and warmth. Only eight turned up for the drive. Enough to play two rinks of pairs, six ends a session, three times we go back to the clubhouse to redraw the teams. Won all my games and totalled nineteen, just short of the winning score of twenty-one.
AGM held at 5pm. Nothing contentious. By 6pm it's finished. Five months of bowling over, when not a single fixture was cancelled due to weather. The hottest, sunniest spell since the summer of 1976. And some of the most valuable lessons for me in an outdoor season of highs and lows.
Be summarising this year's results in a couple of weeks. In the meantime the focus is on the start of indoor bowling, first game on Wednesday. When I tried in 2013, at times was more slapstick comedy than skilled bowling. Maybe I can do better this time. Need to... I'm team captain!
