Down the Club for a couple of solo practice sessions this evening. Will I ever settle on a delivery method? Hoping the smooth delivery from Thursday evening will show up on the solo results. Aiming to groove that action so it becomes more natural and requires little thought. Result?
The first eighteen ends on rink three are nothing special. Initial five ends, get just over 50% within three feet. Then, on end seven, roll three bowls more than four feet short. Unforgivable! The first practice is pretty average, not even making the 50%.
The second on a different rink isn't much better, bang on the 50% target within three feet. Did much better at the beginning of July! Only positive is from ends five to ten, exceeded 75% within three feet. Ends seven to nine are particularly good. Almost 75% within two feet. The first time I've achieved that kind of accuracy. And that's the point I realised maximum smoothness is achieved when using no backswing at all. Just push.
Put the poor results from end eleven onwards down to lack of concentration after 90 minutes solo in hot sunshine. Hopeful when in the heat of battle in tomorrow's Men's Four Bowls quarter-final, the new delivery will do the trick. Goodness knows it's about time I settled on something and the green bars on the chart increased!
Here are the scorecards.
