Afternoon social triples roll up. And I'm back to playing all over the place. Too short or long. Nowhere near the line. So frustrating that at times can be so accurate. Certainly not the case for the first three quarters of our game.
Suddenly I realise what's causing the problem. The upright delivery consists of two elements, a step forward and swing of my arm. Doing both simultaneously causes lack of momentum when delivering the bowl and thus a loss of any feel for length. It also introduces instability, affecting accuracy and consistency. As soon as I separate the two elements things magically come good. Perfect line. Once I get a bowl on length, the rest end up in the same place.
So it's a step forward first. Then, when the front foot is at rest, a swing of the arm to deliver the bowl. Feels right. So considered. Can't wait to have a solo practise to see there's a marked improvement.
