Club drawn pairs competition this afternoon. Like me, my partner bounces between the A and B Teams. We'll make a good pairing. He wants to play skip, so I'm lead. Up against a couple of decent Club players. Four bowls each, played over eighteen ends.
On rink six, the ditch side should be tricky, with a wide swing. We're all trying the inside hand. Trouble is it's so straight, allowing a bit of width leaves you way off line.
After a few ends I'm loving the outside hand. With the right length my bowl just creeps into the jack almost at right angles to its initial trajectory. Very satisfying. And I'm using the upright stance. Tried crouch initially, but back on track upright. Getting at least two bowls close to the jack. Line is perfect. Just the length a bit tricky, the green very fast.
Over the first few ends it's close. But one of the opposition is struggling. On end six we score seven out of a maximum eight. Only lose one end thereafter. With three ends to go and the score 32-6, they can't catch us and concede.
More brain cells applied to try and understand why such a problem with my upright delivery yesterday evening. Think at times I'm rushing things. Must pause to ensure a considered few seconds on the mat before a smooth delivery.
Here's the scorecard.
