Playing away in the Dilley Cup against Somersham Town Bowls Club this evening, a knockout competition, the highest total bowls score wins. Three rinks, each of four per team, two bowls each. I'm playing second on our rink. Going be a long game. Two trail ends and then played over twenty one ends.
On our rink we're off to a cracking start and go well ahead. By the halfway point 14-6 ahead, they cotton on we prefer a short jack. Multiple long jacks on their throw and they nibble away at our lead. What keeps us ahead is although they're scoring regular singles, we get the occasional three or four. We finish winners, 24-16.
It's a mix on the other two rinks. Win with a similar margin on one, lose in like fashion on the other. Overall we come out winners.
Happy with my play. Better at reading an away green and being effective more quickly. Holding concentration in the five minutes plus between rolling my bowls. The odd wayward shot and a few too long or short. But I contributed... that's what counts.
