Ever the bargain hunter, two years ago wrote about my £12.50 bargain from EBay that's been used to haul my bowls kit around. Been thinking about getting a bit more professional about the whole thing. If I'm taking my bowls so seriously, surely I should have some serious kit? And do I really need to take everything with me to every game?
Chatting to Tony, one of our County players who'd just returned from Leamington Spa supporting our ladies 4s in the national finals. Didn't do too well, but he was happy to return with a spanking new £100 bowls trolley.
'What are you doing with your old one?' says I, knowing he'd got a decent rig already.
'Why, you interested?'
'I am at the right price.'
So we arrange to have a viewing on Friday evening. All in working order apart from a bit of one zip coming away. Holds four bowls, shoes and paraphernalia. There's an extra bag to fit over the trolley handle for carrying waterproofs. Just what I need.
'How much did it cost new?'
'£65.'
'I'll give you £20.'
'Deal.'
Taken me a few sessions to transfer everything across. Feel a lot more business-like now. Understand there's loads of bowls kit for sale at the indoor bowls centre in September. Think I'll have a browse. Maybe get some proper tops to replace my cotton Primark polo shirts, and an extra pair of trousers.
Not everything has gone to plan. Aimed to resell my existing trolley suitcase on Ebay to recoup some of the £20. But daughter no. 1 has bagged it for her holiday.
