We're all surprised at how heavy the green is in this evening's EBA 2 Bowls Triples. In spite of sunny skies all day and temperature up to 26c, trial ends see several shots yards short. Playing at Buckden Bowls Club, I'm lead with two of our A Team players.
The line on one hand is so strange even the home players express disbelief. By the time I realise it's almost a straight shot to the jack, our skip asks me to switch for most future shots to the other hand. That has a pronounced bend.
We keep pace with our opponents for the first ten ends. A couple of threes then see them build up a lead. Even on the last end we've still got a chance. No chance really, needing to score all six to draw. End up losing 22-14.
My best end is when I roll two bowls up right against the jack using both hands. All to no avail, their skip's last bowl drive smashing my bowls and sending the jack to the back of the rink, one to them. Otherwise a pretty variable performance. If I get one bowl close, the second is wide or long. Don't like team games because of the waiting around. Give me singles matches every time.
