Men's Pairs quarter final this evening, played over eighteen ends. We've won all our previous fixtures comfortably, but this evening's opponents are both A Team players. This is our stiffest challenge yet.
First few ends close, but from end five we win six of seven ends. Coasting 14-3. My partner is playing a blinder as lead, getting at least one bowl close to the jack, often several. Takes the pressure off. Just as well. Rain earlier in the day has ensured the green is slower. Normally better for me, but I'm rolling a few too many short bowls. At least getting one or two bowls on target each end.
A couple of singles to them and we get another three to make it 17-5 with three ends to go. It's been getting increasingly darker as rain clouds gather. Then the heavens open and we scurry into the shelter of the clubhouse. No chance of playing further. Mathematically our opponents could still win, but they'd need twelve shots in three ends just to draw. They graciously concede.
So that's now four semifinals to play out of six club competitions entered. Sounds great, but could easily crash and burn and not make Finals Day. Some serious opposition coming up. Got two consecutive semi final matches on Tuesday, one on Wednesday, and the pairs some time next week. Finals Day in a fortnight. Gulp!
Here's this evening's scorecard.
