Over 60's singles club competition - Quarter final

Should have a psychological advantage in this morning's club competition match. Already beat my opponent in the mixed singles semi-final, although that result was close. Played over sixteen ends, it's fatal to get too far behind. So I'm taking nothing for granted.

We're on rink three. Pretty reliable line when played previously. But it's rained overnight and the line has less tolerance. An inch or so off as the bowl leaves the hand and you are yards out at the other end. So there are some pretty loose heads at the start.

After four ends my opponent has opened up a gap. But I manage to pull back. By the tenth end I'm 10-6 up. Then drop a second three. Before I know it I'm three down with two ends to play. Must win the next end, which I do by one. It's all on the last end and I need two.

I ground my first bowl as I'm delivering it and it's fatally short. My second is too wide. Meanwhile, my opponent has got two close bowls. My third is shot bowl. Need my last to be close also. Can't quite manage it.

Lose the match 12-13. So close, we each won eight ends. What did for me was giving my opponent three on two ends. Almost half his total score. All I had to do was get one bowl in close. Rats!

At least I've made Finals Day again. And this time for two singles finals. At the start of the season, would gladly have settled for that. Now it's not enough. Left thinking about the missed opportunities in the other three singles competitions.

But must focus. Got two finals to win. Here's the scorecard for this morning.
