Over 60s match against Needingworth B this afternoon. Only my second game for the team, the normal Wednesday fixtures clashing with grandson sitting. Enjoy the triples format, three bowls much better than the two of the men's B team.
Evident we were up against a good side from the start. All three rinks well down in no time. For our group, while they won ends by three or four, we struggled to win by a single bowl. Ended up almost whitewashed, saved only by our second rink making a late comeback.
The highlight was when their skipper, a County standard lady, commented to me 'You have a lovely style and will be a bowler'. Wait a minute... does she mean I'm not a bowler at the moment? Maybe she missed out the word 'some'.
She based her comment on my play after the halftime tea and biscuits. Started to pause my backswing for a count of one to ensure I didn't bowl short, and focus on aiming points part way up the green rather than at the rink end. Played my best spell of bowls ever. Getting closer to a fixed style for the future.
