So annoying!

Played Warboys in the Tatman Cup this evening and came away feeling more than a bit miffed. Throughout the match our trio kept building up a good head of bowls, lying three or four up. Their skipper would then drive his straight bowls down the rink to scatter everything. Result was always to leave them several bowls to the good. Annoying!

Suppose it would have helped if we had placed a few bowls at the back. Seemed they always had the rear occupied. Maybe we just didn't think it out well enough.

Just as I think I'm getting my brain around all the various competitions and teams, the Tatman Cup popped its head up. While playing my club competition match last Friday, the mens league A team captain asked me if I could play for the club. Found myself not only playing amongst all the club's best bowlers, but against the best team in the county. Yes, our club was struggling a bit for players.

And I was on song at the beginning of the match. Bang on line. Remembering backswing and straight arm. At least one of my bowls in the head, if not both. Gradually fell off a bit towards the end. Failed to compensate for the green becoming heavier as the evening wore on. Annoying when I was getting the perfect line but ending up short.

You'll guess from the general tone that we lost. Our trio went down 21-13, and we lost the match 2-1 in rinks.

  1. Are you people respotting the jack when it is driven out of bounds? You don't mention a lot of dead ends.

    1. We never respot the jack if it goes out of the rink. That end is counted as void and the next end started.

If the jack is hit into the ditch we put a marker on the bank to indicate where it lies, and a different coloured marker indicating where the shot bowl is if it also is in the ditch. Only bowls in the ditch which have touched the jack are counted.
