Come rain or shine

Didn't look hopeful for this afternoon's club roll up. Been raining all morning and the forecast was for plenty more. Ever hopeful, I packed the bowls kit and waterproofs in the car boot and set off. Joined two colleagues mournfully looking up at the clouds. Ron had a club competition fixture arranged, but was going to call it off. Tony, made of sterner stuff, was willing to give it a go if the rain didn't get any worse.

In fact it stopped. More surprising, the green was playable. After we'd been playing for about fifteen minutes Chris arrived and we ended up with a three way singles match, four bowls each.

I'd suggested this format for the periodic battle against my brothers. Now I realise why they weren't keen. Playing against two singles players, it's difficult to score more than one or two bowls per end. You can be certain at least one of your two opponents will get a bowl near the jack.

And so it was with our match. Apart from the first end, the rest were won by a narrow margin and the score was close right throughout the game. Won 10 - 9 - 9 after twenty-two ends.

Learned something about my delivery. The occasional bowl had an unfortunate wobble that knocked it off line. Realised after end nineteen I was moving forward to get extra weight into the shot. As soon as I returned to my static delivery all was well and I got a much truer line. Must video my delivery to give it greater examination.

Here's the scorecard...
