Brampton B v St Ives B

What a glorious evening for bowls. And what a beautiful bowls club at Brampton. They rightly claim one of the best greens in the County. Huddled away behind the Brampton Institute, it's a corker of a setting. Must be one of the narrowest entrances to a car park ever.

I'd heard they were a good side. No surprise when our rink went three down from the first end. Our other two rinks were also struggling, with the first rink six love down. Gradually we caught up. All three rinks were tied after twelve of the eighteen ends. Couldn't be any closer!

Our rink finished first. All level with one end to go, we pipped them at the post to win 18-17. Our second rink did exactly the same, winning by one on the last end. Our first rink had been struggling all the way, and lost by two on the last end. So although the final score was all square at 45-45, St Ives won 2-1 in rinks.

Played well in the first half, but my game tailed off a bit with a few short bowls as the evening wore on and the grass got damper. At least I didn't bowl a single wide shot. The evening was finished off with a meal of steak mince pie, mashed potatoes and beans.

Last week the team beat Huntingdon B 5-2. That means we're still unbeaten despite our first three matches being away fixtures. Must put us in the top quarter of the division... can't wait to see the first league tables in the local rag.

Here's a satellite view of Brampton Bowls Club...
