Hmmm... that's interesting! Down the bowls club for a quick solo practice to get my eye in before tomorrow's quarter final pairs match with Jeff, spotted this notice on the board. Been pondering how it'll feel not being able to throw a wood for seven months and facing the challenge of getting back up to speed at the start of next season when I'll only be beginning to get the hang of things by the end of this season. This might be the answer!
Looked up Huntingdon Indoor Bowls Club and it seems a decent place, to see their web site click here. Thought indoor bowls had a barrier halfway down the rink to make players bowl in a curve, but it appears it's just like outdoors, just a lot more level.
Think I might give it a go, if only to keep the competitive element going and my learning curve heading roughly upwards over the winter months. Dare I put my name down first? At least it would show I'm keen. Keen just doesn't describe it adequately!
Watched the St Ives Mens 4s A Team play for a while. Boy was it vocal. Lots of instructions being shouted by the skippers, lots of encouragement from fellow players, lots of amiable banter and leg pulling as well... but deadly serious at the same time. Good fun!
Each player only threw two woods, which would be a bit of a worry for me if I played 4s. I'm still at the stage where two out of my four woods tend to take a detour. How embarrassing would it be if I played for the B team and my two shots consistently took the scenic route.
