Hurrah! Managed to get a positive score in my solo practise this afternoon. It's taken three sessions to get there... no sure if that's good or bad. But after a week off on holiday and the first two solo practises being a disappointment, it really did feel as though I was back to pre-holiday form. Just as well, with a quarter final singles match on Friday evening!
What does a positive result mean? Just that I got more bowls within one metre of the jack than I did bowls short by more than one metre. I'll keep tracking that score, but I'm not sure it's the most useful thing to measure.
The subset of scores for end lengths is helping, since it's indicating what length is my forte. The previous two practises indicated I should avoid a long length at all costs, somewhat of a surprise to me since I thought that's where I had an advantage. Today indicated there wasn't much difference.
I'm beginning to think simply the percentage of bowls within one metre of the jack is the key measure. Seems to make sense that, no matter where my other bowls are, if on average I can get two out of four within one metre of the jack every end that's going to take some beating. On that basis todays result was 36% of my bowls within one metre, the previous two practises being 24% and 21%.
By now you'll have guessed I'm a numbers kind of guy, so no surprise I've got a chart running on percentage of bowls within one metre, the target being consistently 50%.
No surprise on the Reserve Notice post... didn't make the club team to play Chatteris tomorrow. Too many players available ~;o(
