Good advice from the library book

Held on to the library book far longer than allowed. Had slipped behind some other books when I thought I'd returned it. Managed to escape a fine by pleading for more time to find it. Glad this happened. Taking it away on holiday this week, I've been able to absorb the main points.

The most useful thing I picked up was a scoring system for solo practise (more about that in a later post). The full list from the book, which I now carry with me to consult before a match, is...

* Important to find the line and length quickly.
* Get the first bowl up close if you can.
* Don't play short bowls.
* Get at least one bowl near the jack.
* If one up, be happy with that on last bowl.
* Does the opponent have a problem length?
* If in trouble, use the third bowl to open up the head.
* If all else fails, use a drive.

How well will all this work for me when applied in anger in my next competition fixture? I'll let you know.
