Why, oh why, do I get myself into such fixes?
Way back in May, when I entered all the club bowling competitions in sight, didn't think for one minute Sunday 15 September would be a date of any significance. That's the day reserved for all the club competition finals to be played.
Now, with me and Geoff in the club bowls semi finals, and me to play two singles quarter final ties, it's become mega important. Even if I don't make a final, just got to be there to see who wins and join in what must be the highlight of the year for the club.
Was around one of my daughters happily chatting about the latest bowls win with Geoff and how the final beckoned. Having also told Becky about the holiday in Scotland I'd just booked, she said I'd better make sure it wasn't the same weekend. The expression on my face as I realised there probably was a clash, and all the domestic angst to come, must have been a picture.
I've now changed the dates of the trip to Scotland to the following weekend, both to train tickets and bed & breakfast booking. Cost me £40 to change the tickets... I've mentally balanced that against the refund of £38.70 I got from East Coast Trains for a late train on our last trip. Not sure if I'm out of the dog house quite yet.
I've now got a HUGE incentive to get to finals day. After all the hassle and extra cost, imagine the ribbing I'll get if I'm knocked out of all the remaining competitions and am merely an observer on Sunday 15th September!
