Club Triples Competition this afternoon. Triples teams are drawn from entrants, each team playing three matches of six ends against new opponents on a different rink. Two points for a win, one for a draw. The two teams with the most total points compete in a final of eight ends. If there's a tie, the teams with the highest total bowls go through.
I'm skipping a good couple of team members. We stand a chance of getting to the final, but that's put in doubt after we lose the first match in the tightest of games 2-4. Our second opponents are better than us on paper, but we start to click and win 13-3.
I'm reckoning no team will get the full six points for three wins. So if we can get four points and a high count we might still make the final. Our last match is against the only team who haven't yet lost. We've got to win. Keeping an eye on one of the teams in the next rink too. They've won one, drawn the other.
Get the result we need, winning 8-3. Even better, on the next rink the team under observation draws again, so they've also got four points. After a tense fifteen minutes whilst umpires calculate the scores, the teams competing in the final is announced. We've made it! Our high bowls count did the trick.
The final is played on rink one in front of more than fifty club members. What a buzz! Go down two on the first end, win three on the next. We keep the lead thereafter, winning 10-7.
