Men's Fours league match this evening against Buckden B. Should be a tight game. They're one place below us in the league, although we have a game and three points in hand. Can we maintain our unbeaten run?
On my rink 2 it's a strange game. We gain a lead, they string together a series of single bowl wins, then we win with a four to create a margin they never recover from. The tally is eleven ends to their ten, but because almost all our wins are twos, threes or fours, theirs mostly singles, our victory is a comfortable 28-14. We win on rink 4 as well.
It's rink 3 that's the real heart-stopper. We keep pulling ahead, the opposition keep getting back into the game. Over the last few ends there's nothing in it. As the last end is played we're ahead by one shot. And with one bowl to play, we're holding shot. Thankfully that last bowl is ours, so I expect our skip to say he's not playing his final shot. Wait a minute... he looks like he IS going to play his shot! Despite my shouts, unbelievably he rolls his bowl. It's not short either. Just misses knocking up one of their bowls. We win 22-20. Phew!
After a tea of ham and cheese rolls, go home very happy with a 7-0 points win. Here are the scorecards.
