First round of the Men's Top Club competition this morning, at home against Hemingford. Getting a bit of a phobia about Hemingford. Every other game seems to be against one of their teams or players.
This competition is hugely enjoyable. Each Club fields twelve players to play Fours, Triples, Pairs, Two Bowls Singles and Four Bowls Singles. Highest total score wins. All start at the same time other than the Four Bowls Singles. The home player from that match marks the Two Bowls Singles, first to twenty-one or twenty-one ends, and the Two Bowls Singles home player then marks the four bowls match.
Have fond memories of my first ever appearance in 2015. Playing in the two bowls match I had the best result of my bowls career up to then. This morning I'm playing lead for the Fours. Two bowls each over twenty-one ends. Looking somewhat hot when I put all my trial end bowls near the jack.
As usual, off-piste halfway through. The standard method seems to go out the window after a while. Fortunately we're way ahead for most of the match. They catch up as we near the end. Don't finish since we win overall. Only lost on one rink, the Two Bowls Singles. Our Pairs put in a magnificent performance, winning 36-5.
