Get that head down!

Men's Fours league match this evening. Playing for the A team away against St Neots B. Three rinks, each with two teams of four players, two bowls each. Except St Neots can't field a full squad so on two rinks they've only got three players. That means two of them have three bowls each so they can deliver the same eight bowls as we roll. They also get 25% deducted from their final score.

We're struggling from the start on our rink. One hand is dead straight, even with my bendy bowls. Two of the opposition are playing with straight bowls. So all they have to do is judge length. Takes us a while to clock just how straight the line is. Even when we're on the case and sitting with two or three, consistently they bowl straight down the middle and move the jack. Very frustrating!

My early bowls are the usual case of some good, some taking the scenic route. Then realise I'm rising too soon at the end of each delivery, losing weight and accuracy. Once I stay down and ensure a complete follow through the quality improves markedly.

We lose on our rink 9-24. After 25% deduction it's 9-18. Sounds awful, but the game was much closer than it appears. On the next rink we lose on the last end. The third rink is a victory to us by some margin. The points score 3-4 to St Neots. Retire to the clubhouse for rather nice sandwiches and a drink.

Really hopeful I've now found the cause of my recent erratic form. Aiming to keep my nose to the ground from now on ~:o)
