First match for the Men's A Team this evening. Playing away against Eynesbury Bowls Club. Tough match. They won just about every cup going last year. Three teams of four, each rolling two bowls. twenty-one ends. Two points for a winning rink, a bonus point for the side with the highest total score. I'm playing lead ~:o(
We're off to a very poor start on our rink. The match is more than a third over and we've still not scored, 0-21 down. We're up against very good players, although my opposite number isn't anything to write home about. Our side is struggling to find any line. A bit to much left or right and your bowl ends up miles away. And far too many short bowls.
In the second half we do a bit better, partly because they go off the boil. Still end up with a humiliating defeat, 9-29. For a while it looks like we might win the other two rinks. But a collapse on one means we come away losing 2-5 in points.
For all but the last two ends the jack was played long. Even when we had the jack, my skip asked me to play long in spite of us struggling with length. Why didn't he shorten the jack? Certainly better for me when I played the last two ends short. Penultimate end, two bowls close. Last end, both bowls right up against the jack.
Tea provided by home club after the match. Ham and cheese rolls, warm sausage rolls and quiche. Home made piccalilli.

Must think about this. Playing my first round County two bowls singles match tomorrow, away against a top bowler. If I play like this evening it'll be a slaughter. Sure there's something about the length of backswing I'm taking, causing inaccuracy. Maybe more of a push style will work better.
Here's a satellite image of the idyllic Eynesbury Bowls Club. Believe me, if you didn't know where it is, you'd never find it!
