This morning's match is against West Ward Bowls Club from Peterborough. It's the National Top Club competition. Each Club fields eleven players to compete in a 2 bowls fours, 3 bowls triples, 4 bowls pairs, 4 bowls singles and 2 bowls singles.
Played once before in this competition. Then I was a late substitute for the 2 bowls singles. Surprised everyone with a 21-7 win. This time I'm lead in the fours. Yuk!
The grass has been freshly cut early this morning. Hot and dry for days, the green is fast. So I'm struggling with length yet again. Not the only one. My three colleagues aren't playing well either. Not so our opponents. They're good bowlers and build up a strong lead. By the eleventh end we're losing 4-25. How humiliating! We're not alone, St Ives is losing handsomely on all the other rinks.
We rally in the second half, finishing down 15-30. That means we won the last half of the game 11-5. Think our opponents lost interest, they were so far ahead. The overall result a 1-4 loss. Our only victory is a narrow win in the 4 bowls singles.
Yet again length was a problem for me on a fast green. Must have a think about this!
