Another league team loss

Playing at home against St Neots C this evening. We beat them 5-2 in points at their ground, so I'm expecting a win. But on arriving at the green, I know we're in trouble. The rink markers are set in a position that makes reading the lines difficult, so bang goes our home advantage. Consult the skips and we agree to play on rinks 3, 4 and 5.

On our rink we're off to a flying start, 6-0 up after just two ends. But then the opposition get their eye in and we're 6-9 down before we win another end. Trailing throughout, we manage to gain the lead again with just two more ends to play. Win 21-19.

We're struggling throughout the match on rink 3. At 7-21 down I try and rally the players. Currently it looks like we can win on two rinks, so it's down to them to narrow the gap to give us a chance of winning the bonus point. They do stage a comeback, only to give away four on the last end. Rink lost 15-25.

On rink 5 we're so far ahead it looks like we're home and dry at 20-6 with just six ends to play. Silly me! The next time I check their scoreboard we're only 20-15 ahead. Light rain has started falling and we're coming apart. The opposition score two on the last end to draw the rink.

So we draw on rinks but lose the bonus point for highest bowls total. That's a 3-4 loss on points. We retire to the clubhouse as the evening draws in for bangers, mash and beans.

Next week we're playing our main contenders for the league title at home. Really need to win that game. Here are the scorecards from this evening.
