Home again!

Men's Fours league match this evening, against local rivals Houghton & Wyton B. And a rare home game. In the first half of the season we played almost exclusively away from home. Now in the second half of the season and most of our matches are at home.

We beat Houghton & Wyton B 5-2 in points at their green. But they're no pushover. I've asked the team for at least a 5-2 win tonight.

On our rink we have an amazing start. We're 18-0 up after just four ends. Our opponents don't know what's hit them. I'm playing lead and am right on the jack from the start. My three companions are playing a blinder too.

Not so clear cut on the other two rinks. It's end nine before rink three manages to break away and establish a clear lead.

On rink two there was a delayed start, their lead bowler stuck in traffic. Pity. He's their best player. We have a lead, but lose it. It's very close as the other two rinks finish and we nervously watch the outcome. With our two convincing wins we're assured five points. Can we grab all seven?

Doesn't look good as we go three down on the penultimate end. But we're holding lead bowl in the last. Could we really? Yes! We gain three to draw. A good result, 6-1 on points.

Afterwards we retire for tea. Our club is famous for it's food and the lady members do us proud. Roast pork cutlets and gravy, boiled new potatoes and minted peas. What a way to finish!

Here's the scorecard, and current league table. Although fourth, we've got a game in hand over our main rivals, Eynesbury C. We're playing our spare match next Friday and should get 7 points, putting us back at the top of the table.
