Bowls on fire

The indoor bowls match this evening was against the top team by some margin, Warboys. And the first opportunity to see the effect of using the high tech aid. And it worked! Only once did I pull my arm across when delivering the bowl. Knew immediately what I'd done and didn't repeat it. Looks like that problem has gone once and for all.

Of course that didn't mean my bowls were slapping right up against the jack. Even using the new advice gleaned under draw the line, with the paucity of markers to aim at in indoor bowls I was ending up a meter or two either side of the rink's centre line.

The problem now is weight. My bowl was ending up four metres past the jack, the second three metres in front as I overcorrected. Just couldn't get the weight right. Again suffered the ignominy on one end of sending both bowls steaming down the rink and into the gully.

Chatting to the skip after the match, he suggested when I've been practising with his suggestion of the high tech aid, I've probably been using a full backswing and follow through as though playing outdoor bowls, resulting in too much weight for indoor bowls. And he was absolutely right. I have been focusing on a good full swing. So now I've got just over two weeks to re-practise.

And the result of the match? After irritating them by going three up on the first end, they proceeded to thrash us. Here's the most recent league positions. My next match is against Sawtry... if we could beat them we'd go third in the table!
