Idled down to the bowls club early this evening for a solo practise and guess what was up on the board... the team sheet for Thursday's league match, with me as reserve again. Nothing concerning about that is there? Except, having seen no team sheet when at the roll up on Friday, I assumed there wasn't a league match this coming Thursday and agreed to babysit so my daughter could go out and celebrate her anniversary. Drat!
Again ducked putting a cross against my name to indicate unavailability. Having done that last week, the team captain is going to get a definite feeling I'm just messing around. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO!!!!
Added note from Monday morning:
I'm ashamed to say I texted my daughter later in the evening to ask, in the unlikely event I was selected for the team, would she be willing to move her meal to the Wednesday or Friday. How could I do that, given her anniversary is on the Thursday? I even suggested I could take my two grandchildren, aged 10 years and 7 years, down the bowls club with me and keep them amused with free chocolate and soft drinks during the two hours I was playing. I can't believe I did that!
All's not lost. My wife has agreed to babysit if I do get picked, so I can now put a confident tick against my name to show I'm available. I'm thinking if I put a big bold tick that might increase my chances of being selected if a reserve is needed.
Boy, have I got bowls fever!
