Teamwork

Men's 4s League, away to Sawtry C. They're second bottom of the division. We need at least a 5-2 win on points. 7-0 would be even better.

Weather is looking decidedly damp. Stop to take a 'phone call from their captain. It's pouring down in Sawtry and has been all afternoon. Sounds like he'd prefer to call the match off. No chance... we're on our way and I'll never catch all our players in time.

Rain all the way to Sawtry, but by the time we arrive it's stopped. The green looks fine. Agree to play all 21 ends. Turns out to be a perfect evening. Not a drop of rain, the odd patch of blue sky.

Turns out to be perfect results-wise too. Our rink wins the first four ends to go 9-0 up. Never in doubt throughout. Win 28-9. Same for rink 4, winning 35-13.

On rink 2 we're losing 10-17 just past the halfway point. Then the team rally to win the next seven ends, including a six. End up 23-19 to us, and win for the evening 7-0 on points.

Playing lead, my bowls were variable. For every one I got anywhere near the jack, the other was way out. Great problem concentrating when you deliver two bowls and wait ten minutes before delivering again from the other end. But that's what the teamwork is all about... when one player is a bit off, another will make the difference. Here are the score cards.
