Men's B Team 2016 fixtures revealed

Attended the AGM of the men's Thursday evening league last night. Here are the fixtures for our B team next year... the team I'll be captaining for the first time.

A minute's silence was held in memory of members who'd passed away in the last twelve months. Sad feature of bowls, that a few eager players will no longer be around at the beginning of each new season.

The was a short and contentious discussion on... shorts! That is, whether players should be allowed to wear shorts at league matches. Bowls England have amended their rules to allow this, following the lead of several bowls teams at the last Commonwealth Games. But quite a few local clubs still ban the wearing of shorts, including St Ives. The committee had ruled that if a vote was passed, this must be for the whole team. In other words, a team couldn't play with a mixture of some shorts, some long trousers. The result was a strong vote against the wearing of shorts.

Giving some thought to how I'm going to captain the B team next year. Ideally want selection to be as objective as possible. Will publish some ideas shortly. Meanwhile, looks like we'll have a challenging first  half of the league, with five out of the first seven fixtures away from home. If we can be in the top three by fixture eight we'll stand a good chance of getting into the top two and winning promotion.
