Green heaven

Over 60s league match this afternoon. Brampton B are top of the league, but we've moved from bottom to third. Should be a good match.

I'm amazed at their green. The grass is so close knit, it almost appears to be an artificial surface. Apparently Cumberland turf. And as we start the match, it is beautiful to bowl on. Both hands have a lovely, consistent line with a great curve.

All three of us are bowling well and keep lying two or three up. But their skip is excellent and consistently steals the jack. Well behind. At least we're doing well on the other two rinks.

Gradually our luck changes and we go in for tea and biscuits after nine ends having closed the gap 9-6 to them. Come out on a charge and are soon 13-9 ahead. We need to win since on the other two rinks we're now losing handsomely. Our opponents close the gap and as we go into the last end we're two up and sitting with two bowls closest to the jack. Their skip yet again manages to squeeze her last bowl through the narrowest of gaps to carry the jack and score two to them. What a bowler!

Final result on our rink 17-17, but we lose by some margin on the other two rinks. Score in points is 6-1 to them.
