Ahoy Captain!

First time acting as team captain this evening for the Men's 4s B Team league match. The regular captain not playing, so a chance to get some experience. Our opponents, Sawtry C, are one place above us in the middle of the table.

Turn up 40 minutes before the 6.30pm start. Already prepared our scorecards the previous evening. Swap cards with the Sawtry captain to add opposing player names and allocated rinks. Toss a coin, our jack to start.

As each skip arrives I hand over their card. Confirm it's our jack. Ask if they're short of anyone by 6.20pm, to let me know. Glad to see everyone arrive in plenty of time.

Our rink off to a cracking start, up 21-0 after eight ends before Sawtry score a bowl. Ends 40-5 to us, the biggest margin anyone has ever seen. All four of us play well. Our opponents unlucky; amazing how many times their bowls find any small gap to roll through the head.

Final result 5-2 to us, which should lift us into the top half of the table. Captains agree points after all rinks have played 21 ends. Two points for a winning rink, one each for a drawn rink. There's a bonus point for the team with the highest total of winning bowls.

Think I'm going to enjoy being captain next year. Got a few ideas to encourage a bit more competition within the team. Keeping the same players together as a group on rotation seems to be popular. That will enable me to set up a mini league showing each group's results as the season progresses. Going to suggest the club sets up a new competition to decide the best Men's 4s group. On Finals Day the top B Team group plays against the best A Team group for the title.

Here are the scorecards and match result sheet from this evening.
